18+ only · Margin and assortment analysis for EU vape wholesalers and retailers.
Walk into any EU vape wholesale catalogue and you will find disposables at €2.80 and at €14.00 per unit, sometimes from the same brand family. The instinct is to assume the expensive one is overpriced and the cheap one is the sensible buy. In practice the price gap is produced by four identifiable cost drivers — and once you can name them, you can decide which tier your customers actually want, rather than stocking both badly.
Driver 1 — Puff count and the battery cell
Puff count is the headline number, and it is largely a battery problem. A 600-puff device carries a tiny cell and a small reservoir; a 30,000-puff device carries a materially larger cell, a bigger reservoir, and usually a USB-C charging circuit. Those three items are the bulk of the bill of materials. Doubling puff count more than doubles battery capacity, because you also need the electronics to manage it.
| Format | Typical board cost driver | Typical wholesale unit cost band |
|---|---|---|
| 600–1,500 puffs | Tiny cell, no charging | Lowest |
| 5,000–10,000 puffs | Mid cell, USB-C, mesh coil | Mid |
| 18,000–30,000 puffs | Larger cell, display, dual mesh | Mid-high |
| 50,000–150,000 puffs | Multi-cell, screen, dual tank | Highest |
Driver 2 — Coil technology and consistency
Mesh coils replaced wire coils at the mid and premium end because they deliver more consistent output over the life of the device. That consistency matters commercially: a device that tastes flat after 3,000 of its claimed 20,000 puffs generates returns, negative reviews and lost repeat business. The cost of the mesh is small; the cost of inconsistency is large. This is the single most common quality difference between a genuinely premium SKU and a cheap one that merely looks similar on a spec sheet.
Driver 3 — Compliance and documentation cost
Here is the driver most buyers never see, and it is the one that legitimately separates compliant EU stock from grey stock. A legally supplyable EU SKU carries:
- an EU-CEG notification per SKU, per nicotine strength
- an ISO 17025 accredited emissions lab report
- a CLP safety data sheet
- child-resistant packaging verified by a third-party test, mandatory for shipments from 1 October 2026
Those items are a fixed cost per SKU, amortised across the batch. At high volume they add a few cents per unit. At low volume they add significantly more — which is one honest reason why a small-batch compliant SKU costs more than a container-load of undocumented stock. When a price looks implausibly low for Dostawa w UE, the missing cost is usually this stack.
Driver 4 — Channel and inventory risk
The same device can carry three different prices depending on who is holding it: factory-direct (long lead time, your capital at risk), EU warehouse distributor (3–5 day delivery, no customs exposure, higher unit price), or a local jobber clearing overstock (cheap today, unavailable next month). The distributor’s margin is buying you time and certainty. For a shop that reorders every 14 days, that is worth more than a few percent on unit cost; for a buyer placing two large orders a year, it may not be.
What the EU consumer actually buys
The most common mistake in assortment planning is stocking the extremes. Retail sell-through consistently clusters in the middle: mid-puff, mid-price formats carry the bulk of unit volume, with a premium long-puff range generating disproportionate revenue per unit and a small ultra-cheap range serving price-anchored footfall.
A workable default split for a shop new to a category:
- 50–60% of shelf space — proven mid-tier bestsellers across two or three brands
- 20–30% — premium long-puff and dual-flavour formats
- 10–20% — entry price points and new launches you are testing
Then rotate the bottom 10% every two weeks using actual sell-through, not intuition.
The comparison metric that removes the guesswork
Do not compare SKUs by unit price. Compare them by cost per puff at your wholesale price, and by retail price per puff to the consumer. Two devices at very different unit prices can offer almost identical consumer value per puff, in which case the higher retail price wins on margin. Two devices at a similar unit price can differ by 2× on cost per puff, in which case one is simply mispriced.
Build that column into your reorder sheet once and it will change what you stock.
Our range
We carry both ends of the range deliberately — entry formats for price-led footfall and long-puff premium formats for margin — from 10 pieces upward so you can test a tier before committing.
